Modesty House
Garbage Management
 DON'T THROW AWAY,
                 RECYCLE FOR ANOTHER DAY
Session 2015-16.  Project U-Turn and TERI

Objective:    Manage various types of waste materials in the school in a prductive manner through  recycling  of  Aluminium Foil, Tetrapack, Paper & Plastics and Kitchen Waste.

Action Plan :  Modesty house has initiated the following activities to sensitise and create  awareness amongst students about the need of proper “waste management” and promoting cleanliness in the school premises.
I.                   The students and teachers from classes II-X contribute waste alumininium foil in huge quantities for recycling. So far we have collected  40   kg waste aluminium foil and deposited it with the team of the project You Turn for recycling. This is ongoing activity.
II.                 Recycling of Kitchen Waste: Keeping in mind our mission for promoting clean surroundings in our school, Modesty House started recycling of school canteen  and home kitchen waste. For this, our team is using the “ROLLY POLLY MACHINE” to get compost i.e. manure  for use in  the school garden. Duties have been assigned to each class for collection and using the machine. The schedule of classes on duty is given on the blog.
III.             Recycycling of dry Leaves: Students of class –X are actively involved in getting the dry leaves collected from all over the school. The recycling is done with the help of mulchy-Bulchy Machine. This helps in not only keeping our premises clean but also in converting dry leaves into compost.  All the above activities are done on a regular basis & will be continued throughout the year.
IV.             Recycling of Tetrapack and othe plastic & paper waste : Students of all classes participate and collect all the waste paper, Plastics and Tetra pack etc. The same is sent to TERI for recycling. During session 15-16, the school has collected
a.       559 Kg of paper
b.      167 kg of aluminium foil
EVALUATION
In each of the above areas we have achieved commendable success.  We need to increase the utilization of the mulchy-Bulchy Machine. It is also felt that there is a need to create more awareness on prevention of wastes itself.

Future Plans: session 2016-2017
Modesty house will continue all above projects. Increased Emphasis will  be given to
1.      participation of more students
2.      sensitisation of students for keeping surroundings clean
3.      recognition of active students
4.      regular follow up
5.      cleanliness drive from micro(class room) to macro level(school)
6.      sensitise students to use separate dustbins for biodegradable and non biodegradable waste.
